Monterey

Last Saturday we went to Monterey... It was cold and windy but it's never a bad day at the beach...
There was a Coast Guard boat squirting water... since there was no fire in the ocean, I guess he was just practicing...

From My Japanese Maple Tree...

Found at Wikipedia:

A samara is a type of fruit in which a flattened wing of fibrous, papery tissue develops from the ovary wall. A samara is a simple dry fruit and indehiscent (not opening along a seam). They are winged achenes. The shape of a samara enables the wind to carry the seed farther away from the parent tree:

  • The seed can be in the centre of the wing, as in the elms (genus Ulmus) and the hoptree (Ptelea trifoliata).
  • The seed can be on one side, with the wing extending to the other side, making the seed autorotate as it falls, as in the maples (genus Acer) and ashes (genus Fraxinus).

A samara is sometimes called a key and is often referred to as a whirlybird, helicopter, whirligig or polynose.

Some species that normally produce double samaras, such as Acer pseudoplatanus, can also produce a few multi-lobed samaras with 3 or 4 seeds.

We've been getting lots and lots of rain this spring which is very good with our water shortage... and the roses are loving it except they have bloomed so well that they are too heavy with blooms and then the water too... So today I had to do some major trimming all around but mostly to this one... above is the before shot....

After shot... and we are expecting more rain again in the coming week...

More than enough blooms to fill vases for in the house... two for the dining room table and one in the family room...

Son2 is back to cleaning his room today... well in between his brothers distracting him and making hubby and I lemonade while we were working in the yard and now as he was looking for the tape measure he has been distracted by the cartoons that son3 is watching...

can you see hubby through the window mowing the yard...

the sorting continues...

cleaning out books for son3 to read... Danny saw a Wishbone book that he liked...

and then he decided to rearrange the furniture... the rest of it is in the hallway....
To be continued....

TMS Show and Tell

I think I figured out what my rut was... the dining room table... Upon getting a laptop you think that you are going to carry it everywhere you go... Not true... it's still big and not easily used on your lap as it's hard to type and gets quite warm... Occasionally I would use it in bed while watching TV or on the sofa while watching TV but usually it would be on the dining room table... In the middle of everyone... and every time we ate I would have to move it and all my paperwork on to the floor...
Plus I would be in the middle of the family chaos with the TV going in the family room, the dirty dishes in the sink behind me, everyone calling Mom cause I was just right there... So I realized while thinking at work on Friday that I needed a quiet place to get my creativeness flowing again where I could write and think...
The family computer that I used to blog on is on my big roll top desk in the front room where son1 now sleeps and has his computer sitting on the roll top next to the family computer...

So I got the idea to clear off the craft table in the Art room...

Ta Da! My new work table for blogging, bill paying and all Mom online game playing.... It's only been two days and I already notice a difference of calm... I also don't have the laptop tempting me on the dining room table now while I am trying to clean the house...

And my dining room table looks like this....

Hubby's corner of the Art room to the right of my work space... He says he has to clean his corner now... plus he had spread out to the craft table and now has to organize the items I cleared off back into his corner...

Son3's corner of the Art room where he battles the Empire against the dark side or defends his kingdom on his knight games or plays Zoo Tycoon....

Still have to organize this part of the Art room that contains all the school and art supplies...

Son2's computer corner in his room... See son2's chicken hat, he won that during Chicken week at school... It was Time Machine Day to dress for any era and he chose the 50's by wearing rolled up jeans, jean jacket and white t-shirt... I missed getting a picture of him that day... he says no one really knows where chicken week came from... they wanted to have a week to do something and someone mentioned they honor the chicken so they did... he goes to an Agriculture school so that may be why....

Son2 decided he wanted to clean his room yesterday... actually it was clean but he wanted to clean out stuff and condense and make room for new stuff...

Of course son3 was checking to see if he would get handed down anything good...

However today it still looks like this and he slept in the family room last night... he got overwhelmed and played with some things he forgot he had... we know it can't be done in one day but he hasn't gone back since... I've been telling him for the past three hours that at least his bed needs to be cleared for bedtime tonight... he emptied out the closet, that is where everything came from...

And there was son3's half of the dining room table that we use for homework time... I downsized what we needed...

And the homework corner is more manageable now... Son3 still needs to read some story books today for AR reading for school this week....

Do you have any projects to share... Stop by The Motivation Station and leave a photo link on the sidebar at Show and Tell....

April Fifteenth...

Watching Bones... Hubby should be back any minute, he had to go to a meeting at work... Boys have been back to school a week already and two weeks since Easter... Taxes were due today...
Still haven't taken any vacation days from work... the supervisor did bring it up so guess she approves of the one day at a time... still lots of boxes coming in at work and visitor still hasn't shown yet...
Holly is sitting on my chest... Hard to type this way and her fur is shedding all up my nose... and she's stinky...
I am so unorganized lately... getting lots done at work but not at home... was good and cut back on facebook but having trouble with a blogging routine... I think it's since I switched to the laptop... and son1's room is where the main computer is... I don't have a quiet place where I can blog... I am usually on the laptop in the dining room... I'm just feeling blah and I don't like it...
Son3 is here now talking my ear off... and now son2 is here too... don't know where son1 is... he's had four days off of work... still only working fifteen hours... he was applying for the school district but it was a night shift in a not very nice part of town... son2 has been looking for a job for the summer, but 16 year olds are much more limited these days... most jobs require 18 yr olds... Our water park had a job fair for four hundred jobs with three thousand people showing up...
Fringe is on now, but I'm taping it for hubby, so I'm watching Supernatural...

Son1's new car he got this week... traded the Mustang for a Jeep... hopefully this is the one he will keep for a while... he's already driven it through the mud and the snow... we had a lot of rain the other day causing all the mud and snow... supposed to see more rain at the beginning of next week... it's been unseasonably cool still too... still wearing light jackets in the morning...
tomorrow's my early day to go into work... set the ad, men's display report, stock the men's hanging sandals, finish locating the women's stockroom, lunch, open boxes...
Hubby's home now...
Movie's we have to watch: Law Abiding Citizen, Pandorum, and Ninja Assassin...
Gonna go finish watching Supernatural and then sleeping time to get up at 4:30am for work...
Hopefully I'll get my creativeness flowing again and be a better blogger...
